What is in a replacement filter kit
Both the Vortex Pro 3 and the Ultra V Pro 3 take three full-size 20 x 4.5 inch cartridges, and a replacement kit is all three. WFD design each kit so the cartridges work in sequence: the first protects the second and the second protects the third. That is why we replace the full set at each service rather than swapping one cartridge at a time, so every stage and every carbon zone is restored together. Genuine WFD cartridges carry the WaterMark branding on the end cap, which is what keeps your 10 year system warranty intact.
Which kit you need depends on your water and what you want it to do. Most of our customers run the standard Vortex-Pro kit, the HydroFlow Advanced kit or DuraScale-X. We will have your kit on record from installation; if you have moved into a home with a system already fitted, we can identify it on site.

How often do whole-home filters need replacing
For most homes on scheme water, about every 12 months. WFD rate the Vortex Pro 3 at roughly 12 months plus or minus three depending on water quality. Homes with heavy sediment, older pipework or high usage sit at the shorter end; a small household on good scheme water can go longer. Why we replace filters as a set
Each cartridge protects the one after it, so a worn first stage shortens the life of the two behind it. At every changeover we fit all three in the specified order, flush the new carbon cartridges, check the housings, O-rings and seals, re-zero the gauges and confirm flow at the tap.
Sediment first
Dirt, rust and silt come out before they can block the carbon. A loaded sediment cartridge is what drops your flow.
Carbon second
The chlorine and chemical load is handled by the carbon cartridge. Once its adsorption sites are full, taste and odour return.
Specialist last
The Hydro-Flow, DuraScale-X or pH cartridge is protected by the two before it and does the fine work.
Scale protection without a softener
If scale on your shower screen, kettle or hot water system is the problem, your next filter change is the time to switch to the DuraScale-X kit. It swaps the third cartridge for salt-free anti-scale media that stops hardness minerals bonding to surfaces, with no salt, brine, power or wasted water, and the minerals stay in your water. The HydroFlow Advanced kit also carries anti-scale media, so if you want finer filtration and help with scale in one kit, that is the one to ask about. Filter replacement FAQs
Can I change the filters myself?
Confident owners can change the cartridges on a Vortex Pro 3 with the spanner supplied in the cabinet. We recommend a licensed plumber for anything on the inlet and outlet side and for the UV lamp on the Ultra V Pro 3. Most of our customers simply have us do it as part of a service visit, and we track the date so you do not have to.
Do you supply filters for systems you did not install?
Yes. We supply and fit genuine WFD kits for any Vortex-F3, Vortex Pro 3 or Ultra V Pro 3 across Dunsborough, Busselton, Vasse, Yallingup, Cowaramup, Margaret River and Eagle Bay, and we can identify the kit your system runs on site.
What happens if I leave old filters in?
Flow drops as the sediment cartridge loads up, the carbon stops adsorbing so chlorine taste and odour return, and the specialist third cartridge ends up doing work it was not designed for. On scheme water it is not dangerous, but the system is no longer doing its job.
Do replacement filters affect the warranty?
Genuine WFD cartridges keep the 10 year system warranty intact. Look for the WaterMark branding on the cartridge end cap.
Can I change to a different kit at replacement time?
Yes. The Vortex Pro 3 takes any of the eight WFD kits, so you can move from the standard kit to the HydroFlow Advanced kit for finer filtration and help with scale, or to DuraScale-X if scale is the main problem. See the full kit range on the Vortex Pro 3 page.
