These Busselton homeowners are connected to mains water, but much prefer the taste of rainwater. They had installed a tank so they could use collected rainwater for drinking, but wanted greater confidence about what might be entering the tank through roof runoff.
Rainwater can pick up sediment, bird droppings, insects, organic matter, roofing residues and contamination from vermin as it travels across the roof and through the gutters. To properly treat the water before it reached the family, we supplied and installed an Ultra V Pro 3 water filtration and UV disinfection system.
Three stages of rainwater treatment
The system treats every litre through three carefully ordered stages:
- A grooved sediment pre-filter captures dirt, silt and other larger particles collected from the roof and tank.
- The water then passes through the UV chamber, providing chemical-free disinfection before it reaches the final filter.
- A 0.5-micron carbon block cartridge provides fine filtration while improving the water’s taste, clarity and odour.
Passing the water through UV before the carbon stage also helps protect the final filter media from microorganisms.

The result is a practical whole-home treatment system that allows the family to keep enjoying rainwater without the same concerns about what may have been collected from the roof.
